The United States is easily the number one country for plastic surgery procedures. 15.1 million cosmetic procedures were completed in 2013 alone.
But the United States isn’t the only country going gaga for plastic surgery! The plastic surgery phenomenon has reached the rest of the world.
Here are the most popular procedures in…
As plastic surgery becomes popular in the Western hemisphere, the Eastern hemisphere is taking note. Countries like South Korea and Taiwan are rapidly producing high numbers of plastic surgery patients each year. In South Korea most patients want to appear more Western. Eyelid surgery tops the list for plastic surgeries in South Korea.
Taiwan is another Asian country where plastic surgery has been growing in popularity. Its highest-grossing procedure is BOTOX® injections and other non-invasive, wrinkle-reducing injections. Liposuction and rhinoplasty are also slightly more popular in Taiwan than they are in South Korea.
Europe has a long history with plastic surgery. After the United States, many European countries see large numbers of citizens running to their plastic surgeons’ offices. In particular, Greece and Italy produce high numbers of plastic surgery procedures. Greece’s most popular procedure is the breast augmentation, but penis enlargements are also on the rise in the island country.
Along the banks of the Mediterranean lies Italy, where nearly one million plastic surgery procedures were completed in 2010. BOTOX is the most common procedure, but liposuction is the most popular invasive procedure performed.
South America has been a booming continent for plastic surgery for quite a while. Countries like Brazil and Colombia are known for their beautiful women and svelte men. Both of these countries have a high demand for plastic surgery and don’t have a problem with supporting the cosmetic surgery industry. Brazil even gives citizens tax deductions for elective plastic surgery procedures. And liposuction and breast augmentations, the two most popular procedures in Brazil, are frequent tax deductions.
In Colombia the plastic surgery industry has exploded in popularity. In this tropical country, liposuction is the most popular procedure in both its surgical and non-surgical forms.
Plastic surgery abroad is definitely booming! As the world’s economy stabilizes and people have access to more money to spend on the things they want, the popularity of plastic surgery will continue to grow. From Taiwan to Brazil and Italy to South Korea, all of the countries above have booming cosmetic surgery industries and hope to continue to be strong forces in the world’s plastic surgery market.
