Among plastic surgery procedures in the U.S., breast augmentation is continually the most performed procedure. In fact, over the last decade, breast augmentation has been the number one performed procedure in the U.S., with nearly 300,000 procedures performed in 2016 alone.
Because of its popularity, many people have questions regarding this procedure and want to have an idea of what to expect before calling for a consultation. At North Texas Plastic Surgery, our Harvard-trained, board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Sacha Obaid has extensive experience with breast augmentations and is happy to provide potential patients with information so that they can make an informed decision for their aesthetic aspirations.
A few of the most asked questions we receive include:
What type of augmentation is right for me?
- The most traditional method of breast augmentation generally involves using breast implants. Implants come in various sizes and shapes and can help us easily match your aesthetic goals. However, we also offer the option of using the body’s own fat to add shape and size to your breasts. Breast augmentation with fat transfer not only is a natural way to augment your breasts but it also helps eliminate fat in other areas of the body.
Which implant type is right for me?
- There are two main types of breast implants: saline and silicone implants. Each type offers its own set of benefits and qualities. The most commonly-used are silicone implants because of their natural feel and look after placement. Silicone implants are approved for use in women aged 22 and older. Saline implants are less expensive than silicone and can be placed in women as young as 18. However, they can often not look as natural as silicone implants.
What size should I get for my augmentation?
- Determining what size to make your new breasts depends on a number of factors including your body frame and size, how elastic your breast skin is, and most importantly what your goals are. We’ll work with you during your comprehensive consultation to find the best solution that not only works with your body but fits your wishes as well. We use many advanced methods to help you decide, including 3D imaging and virtual reality to help you visualize how you’ll look with certain sizes.
These are just a few of the many things you need to consider if you’re interested in having breast augmentation surgery. Dr. Obaid and his entire staff have extensive experience with this body contouring procedure and are happy to assist you every step of the way to ensure that you’ll look and feel great after the procedure.
